About the race

Hochkönig Ultraks takes place in the Hochkönig region of Austria, roughly in the middle of the country, between Innsbruck and Vienna, around the village of Maria Alm, one and a half hours from Salzburg. This part of the Alps is renowned for its network of high pastures, called Almen, where local farmers still craft mountain cheeses by hand. The event spans two days and takes place around the Hochkönig massif, bringing runners through dramatic mountain scenery, ridge lines, and panoramic high passes.

Courses range from shorter trail distances to longer ultramarathon routes. The main course is a 71.5 km event with 4,150 m of climbing. Other races include a 48 km event with 2,940 m of elevation gain, a 35 km (2,663 m elevation gain), a 32.4 km (2,094 m), and additional routes of 20 km and 10 km with more moderate climbs. The event series also includes a vertical race and relay options, offering flexibility for runners seeking varying goals and ambitions.

Framed by steep rock faces, alpine pastures, and sweeping valley views, Hochkönig Ultraks provides a vivid alpine experience in Austria. Whether choosing the full ultramarathon or a shorter climb, the event immerses participants in the rugged terrain and high-mountain atmosphere of the Hochkönig region.
