About the race

The Ivrea-Mombarone is one of Italy’s oldest races, dating back to 1970. The mainly uphill trail race is held each late September between Ivrea, a town in the Piedmont region, and the summit ridge of Mombarone, in the Biellese Alps of northwestern Italy, about two hours north of Turin. Covering 20 km and climbing approximately 2,100 m, the course departs from Ivrea’s Piazza Ottinetti and winds through wooded switchbacks, alpine pastures, and hamlets before ascending along old mule tracks to the hilltop village of Andrate and finally reaching the Colma di Mombarone at 2,371 m.

A non-competitive option called Ivrea-Andrate mirrors the first half of the course: it covers 10 km with 550 m of climbing, ideal for those seeking a shorter route. A shuttle service runs from the finish to Andrate and back to Ivrea, where participants can grab a warm snack, or even a hot local meal upon completion.

Set amid sweeping high-mountain terrain, the Ivrea-Mombarone courses offer a pure ascent through a dramatic, moraine-framed alpine valley at an event with decades of local mountain running tradition.
