September Running in the Alps

September in the Alps Guided

This was a wonderful trip from beginning to end. The September weather was perfect. Our guide, Mike, was terrific, cheerful, and always looking out for us. The hotels and dinners were absolutely first class. And our running routes were beautiful and well chosen. Doing the DDM race at the end was icing on the cake. With a small group (only 7), our knowledgeable guide, and the connection to the organizers of the DDM race the entire trip felt very personal. I really recommend it.

Why

I won it through Broken Arrow, but know the Alps well and saw it as a fantastic opportunity.

Advice

Be flexible day to day. Don't be surprised by steep rocky trails, and be ready for lots of uphill.

Highlight

It's hard to say, there were so many. Our group was great, our guide was great, and you can't beat the beauty of the mountains. If there was a surprise it was the quality of our hotels and meals. The hotels in Chamonix and Champery were first class, and the restaurants we were taken to were first class and all fantastic. And then there's the mountains. Maybe the highlight was running down the main street toward the finish line of the DDM with our group running and cheering and ringing cowbells, and everyone on the street clapping and shouting encouragement. After a long, long run what a way to end.
